A Floreat student has raised over $1600 for the Leukaemia Foundation for participating in the World’s Greatest Shave in March.
Twenty-year old fitness and nutrition student, Jacob Cheah, shaved off his dreadlocks after three years of growing and grooming.
Mr Cheah was one of over 125,000 people who either shaved or coloured their hair to help raise over $ 11 million.
“Personally I haven’t been affected by Leukaemia but I thought it would be a good time to shave the dreadlocks off, and I was able to do it for a good cause,” he said.
“It was a new experience for me.
“At the beginning I started to have second thoughts but once the donations began to come through, it was something I felt good about.
“Now that I have achieved something great, I look forward to finishing my degree and helping unfit and unhealthy people get their life back on track,” he said.
“The Leukaemia Foundation needs tens of thousands of people to participate to help lessen the impact of blood cancer,” according to Chelsea Hardy, marketing and communications manager at the Leukaemia Foundation.
“It is our most important fundraising event, as the Leukaemia Foundation receives no ongoing government funding and we rely on the community to support the foundation.
“Money raised, funds services to support patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and other blood related disorders,” she said.
This year in Australia, 10,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with a blood cancer or blood related disorder.
